Nigerian Police: New Recruits Must Write JAMB Exams Before Enlistment

The Nigerian Police have said all new recruits must write the Joint Admission and Matriculation Boards examination before enlistment.

According to the force, the move is to ensure credibility and transparency in the choice of those who serve the Nigeria as police officers.

The screen commences on May 7, 2018 in all 36 States of the Federation.

The IGP, Ibrahim K. Idris, NOm, mni, represented by the deputy inspector general of Police, Training and development, DIG Emmanuel Inyang psc(+) mni has addressed commissioners of Police and other senior police officers selected to serve as Heads of Police recruitment screening committee in the 37 commands of the Federation and warned them to be thorough and above board and ensure that the screening exercise is hitch free and void of any form of corrupt practices.

He further warned the officers to remain impartial and endure transparency.

Successful candidates will also go undergo a written aptitude test after the physical screening process. The aptitude test will be conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to ensure transparency and get the best of candidates.

Medical examinations will also be conducted in the areas of :

  • Visual Assessment which will cover far and near visual acuity, binocular vision, color vision, visual field testing and pathology.

  • General Medical Tests which covers blood pressure, sugar, body mass index, STDs, Tuberculosis, antigen in serum and pregnancy test (for women).

  • Psychological evaluation of candidates and drug screening test

The IGO also directed that the DIG, Training and Development should embark on monitoring and assessment of the exercise through the 36 States and the FCT to ensure the exercise is carried out in line with best practices.
