Craig Turner, Tina Turner’s eldest son has been found dead in an apparent suicide at his home in California. He was 59. Police confirmed his death to entertainment website TMZ.
Craig Turner was pronounced dead yesterday afternoon due to a self inflicted gunshot wound by cops after they arrived his Studio City home in California.
Turner was born when his superstar mother was 18, a year after she had joined Ike Turner and his band, the Kings of Rhythm on stage, which marked the beginning of her career. Her son, however, was not biologically fathered by Ike, but by Raymond Hill, the band’s saxophonist.
The beatings between Tina and Ike are widely reported, and in 2005 Turner spoke about her son’s experience of witnessing them to Oprah: “Ike’s children never reacted, but my oldest son, Craig, was a very emotional kid.
He’d always look down in sadness. One day when Ike was fighting me, Craig knocked on the door and said, ‘Mother, are you all right?’”
Until his death, Craig was a real estate agent, working for Rodeo Realty in Beverly Hills.
His biological father died in 1996. Craig is survived by his mother and half brother Ronald.
