Five Pupils Feared Dead And Others Trapped after School Building Collapses In Lagos

A three- storey building housing a school and apartments collapsed at Ita Faaji area of Victoria Island, Lagos State this morning.

Many including school children have been feared dead and others still trapped.

Mrs. Adebola Kolawole, the chair person of the Red Cross Society in Lagos state, said about 36 people had been pulled from the rubble so far, including some dead persons.

An eye witness told our correspondence that the building had been marked with an “X” for demolition by the State government but not long ago was refurbished. Residents of the building apartments as well as the Ohel Nursery and Primary School, had complained about the building’s shoddy construction and exorbitant rent.

The cause of the tragic incident which occurred at about 10:00am today could not be exactly ascertained at the time of filing this report.
